As June comes to
a close, Salle Mauro fencers are entering the final stages of
preparation for Summer Nationals. Camp Victory, the last of
the pre-national camps, has come to an end. Club members were
able to hone their skills against the French Junior Men’s Foil
Team, Us Junior and Cadet National team and fencers and
coaches from across the country joined us to make a final push
for high performance this summer. Camp
Victory
ran from June
16-20 and included over 100 fencers. The Salle Mauro coaching
staff was joined by Franck Boidin (Coach, French Junior Men’s
Foil Team), Antoine Marculle (Paris University Epee Coach),
Hossam Hassan (Coach,
Gateway Fencing Academy),
and Emilia Ivanova (Coach,
Heartland Fencing Academy).
Salle Mauro would like to thank these coaches as well as the
French Junior Men’s Foil Team for their great contribution and
participation in this camp.
During the
course of Camp Victory, many medal hopefuls in all 6 weapons
gathered for training. In order to deal with the sheer size
of the camp, fencers worked in groups over the week with the
camp hours running from 8 am to 8 pm. Fencers worked on
conditioning, skills, and tactics over the course of the camp
and pushed their bodies and minds to the limit. With a deep
coaching staff, fencers received feedback on their strengths
and areas needing work. Care was taken to ensure mental
preparation was as important as training the body.
Salle Mauro looks forward to seeing all the participants
having a successful National Championships in Miami. We’d
like to thank everyone who worked to make this camp
successful. Our club parents, who helped by hosting visiting
fencers and bringing water and other snacks to the
participants, show that our club is second to none in
hospitality and class,. We look forward to even stronger
camps in the future with the help of all involved.
